Winter is Upon Us! Time to Winterize the Home.
A properly winterized house ensures that you and your family stay warm and comfortable as the temperatures dip.
Whether you've winterized your home before or this is your first year in your new home, use this checklist to prepare for the cold weather.
OUTDOORS
- Clean your gutters of leaves and debris.
- Shut off faucets & let pipes, hoses drain.
- Trim branches near your house and on your property.
- Caulk any cracks around the outside of your windows and doors.
- Inspect your snow blower to ensure it's working properly.
- Close any outdoor vents that may have been opened in the summertime.
- If you have a sprinkler system, turn it off for the season.
- Check the areas around any downspouts to make sure they're clear of rocks and debris.
INDOORS
- Change the batteries on your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
- Have your heating system checked.
- Seal and fill cracks around doors and windows to keep cold air out and warm air in.
- Replace furnace filters every 3 months.
- Check the temperature on your hot water tank and make sure it's not exceeding its maximum.
- Check your dryer vent to make sure it's not clogged up.
- Check your garage and attic for any leaks.
